"In a Couple of Years..."

So. Matt claims I jinxed our house progress because of this line on my blog. He said I should probably change it to, "In a year and 5 months they have built a home sweet home."

That would have our house ready next month:)

Quick Updates:
We had our final meeting with the cabinet guy; since we didn't sign papers to order them (that'll be next week), I'll wait to show the color we went with since there is a possibility it could change...but I will say it's in the white family (who knew there were so many variations of white?!)

All HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and alarm is done in the addition.

Very next step: Insulation in addition. Then, flooring. We're waiting on our 3rd quote for flooring. We're hoping if we keep getting quotes, the quote will go down. So far, this isn't working.

So, that's the quick update! I will post some pictures of the addition soon. Our mudroom flooring and brick work on the back entry way area is finished, so that was a big step and fun to see!

Have a great weekend!

Dreams do come true

Okay, so the title sounds like I should be saying, "I won the lottery!!!"...but, not quite.

I really love music, and when I find a group I like, it's all I can think about. Lately, it has been Mumford & Sons. I'm sure anyone who has followed this blog can tell. Before that, it was The Killers. Sadly, to my old self, I'm sorta over them, now, but they still creep back into my CD player from time to time, and I still enjoy listening to all their songs, and watching their Royal Albert Hall concert DVD.

So, I'd say my favorite artists are (in no particular order):
The Beatles (okay, they're first, but the rest are in no particular order)
Coldplay
Wilco
Mumford & Sons
The Killers

I also like MGMT, The Strokes, Florence + the Machine, Nirvana, and Radiohead. Some more, too, but I can't think of more right now....

Well, today I was looking on facebook and saw that MGMT was coming to Memphis in May. So, I decided to check the line up. To my surprise, I see that Wilco, Mumford & Sons, MGMT, and Avett Brothers (another fun group) are coming. What?!?! This is crazy. Usually Music Fest is full of people I don't feel like risking mud fest possibilities on, but I could not believe it! I immediately had to get the 3 day pass. I mean, this means I get to see 2 of my top 5! Overwhelming, really.

I think I'm most excited about M&S, but Wilco is always great live, and I'm looking forward to seeing how MGMT is live, too. I'm excited because MGMT is Friday, Mumford Saturday, and Wilco on Sunday. Such a fun weekend ahead!
In the spirit of this fun musical line up, I thought I'd post a song from each, and a link to the line up.

Commercials

Ladies and Gentleman,
It has come to a post on commercials. I would really like to think that i have more intriguing and fun to share thoughts throughout the day, but this blog topic shows that is untrue:)
I just really haven't felt the house convo lately, and other than talking about Mumford and Sons, I figure I'm out of steam.

So. Commercials.

I just have 2 to share. One that really stresses me and another that makes me giddy.

First, the one that causes me to jump/dread.

Let me explain. The jump part comes because this commercial sorta jumps out at you with those loud voices followed by the "ayyeeyaa!!" yell. Then, the dread. Every morning while I'm listening to the Today Show while getting ready this commercial comes on in two's. The first time makes me jump, then there will be another commercial, and then it never fails, THIS AGAIN! Just like that. "Ayyayayy!" (enter man excited about furniture then screaming electric guitar)
I like Queen and all, but this commercial gives me stress.

Okay, now to fun time. I REALLY love this Apple commercial. Mainly, because my nephew Harrison loves it, and directs full attention to the TV when it comes on. He loves it so much that Matt and I sent it to him in a birthday text that David and Erin played for him.... but I also love it because I just really like the piano. And, who can resist the sharp snapping of the fingers? Just makes me giddy.
Please enjoy:

That's all for now. I will try to step it up from commercials next time.
Later homies.

Who is Esperanza?

This is in honor of who I thought should have won Best New Artist on the Grammy's. My blog has a theme of house + Mumford and Sons, I'm noticing...hmm.

I love the Grammy's and tivo-ed it...Matt and I were watching it, and I'm pretty sure he thought I'd lost it when I'm yelling at the TV for not only Florence and Bieber not getting it, but Mumford & Sons. Pul-eeeeez!
Okay, maybe you guys know Esperanza and I congratulate her, but still. I was really holding out for Mumford.

I'm slightly obsessed.

Anyway, here's to good music.

Cool way to compare

I was browsing blogs and cabinet pictures, and came across this. I thought it was cool. It basically shows the 2 colors we're comparing, right over each other, so it helps!

I am leaning toward white.

If we do white, I like the subway tile look. Not sure on countertop color, and not sure if we'll match the island countertop to the kitchen wall cabinet area countertops.

I have seen a few other 'antique whites' that are not as creamy as this picture, and they are really pretty, but finding the perfect variation of off-white is not easy. Who knew there were so many forms of the color white!? I am sensing that I will probably just blurt out 'white white!' to the cabinet guy the next time we talk, and leave it there. I think.

Until the next post of mind changing....

I didn't even make it 24 hours...New Question to ponder

White White or Antique White?

I'm driving myself crazy here, so I apologize to anyone who has actually read any of this back and forth craziness I'm throwing out for everyone.

So, island will stay dark. It's the cabinets, again. Will they be white, or will they be antique white? Please click the link below. I googled white vs. antique white, and found a girl's blog with a similar crisis. Please pretend like I am this girl because I am in 100% agreement with her dilemma. I just don't know which to do!

So, I just looked back, and the person who did the above blog post, chose white...see here:

I am so torn!

From brown brown to white

I know. I was supposed to have made a final decision, but much like many other decisions in the house process, I'm pulling a reverse-decision-reversal. Tomorrow we meet with our cabinet guy, and yes, we are moving it back to white cabinets. Here's the twist/compromise/evolution that comes from many mind changes: brown brown island. I think this will look cool, and break up the color from the white to brown floors to dark countertop, etc. I have seen where people have even put a different color countertop on their island vs. cabinet area. But, let me not get ahead of myself:)

Regarding future kiddos with popsicle hands, I guess I will just have to learn to clean. Yes, I'm not the most domestic wife, but I will really love those bright whites cabinets, and will just have to take care of them.

I started looking at kitchens with dark brown cabinets, and I just didn't feel like it was my kitchen. Then, I'd look at white cabinets, and feel all giddy.  Since the house process began, I have been drawn to white cabinets with white subway tile and wood floors. I have way too many magazine pictures ripped out, and they're all the same look.  Here are some pictures of what I imagine in my dreams. Granted, our house will not be just like these pictures, but hey, it gives a general idea:)

I love the white look with black granite, then dark cabinet with light granite. Cooooool.

Now, we aren't going all the way with covering appliances in white, but I still like the look of this kitchen, too...maybe a little more break up in the whiteness going on, but it just looks so alive; see, doesn't that lady look happy making her cake or whatever? I bet the cabinets deserve some credit for that.

I like the glass cabinets, and how they add some color to the white scheme. I'd just have to remember to have cute and colorful dishes in there. Mine are white:) plain jane over here.

ooo, ahhh, pretty. I like this and how it looks with the floors. We aren't going that dark on the floors, but a shade or so lighter. I'm trying to picture this with a dark wood island. I think/hope that will work? Oh, and this floor is pretty much that brown brown color I keep saying. If anyone has a better descriptor, please share. I just think of it as a rich brown...like a double shot of it.

Anyway, it's fun to look at all of these pictures. The kitchen has definitely been my favorite part of this house renovating process. Now, I'm hoping my next post isn't "From white to brown brown to white to brown brown." gah.
